Saltillo tile is a handmade, unglazed terracotta tile that requires specific care — and is frequently damaged by the wrong products or methods. Old acrylic sealers yellow and peel. Wax buildup traps dirt. Improper cleaning strips the sealer and leaves the tile vulnerable. Proper restoration means stripping the old sealer completely, cleaning the tile and grout, and applying the right sealer for the material and the use.
